FIT SHOW 2016
TRADE SHOW JOINS TRADE BODY
»»The Glass and Glazing Federation
(GGF) welcomed The FIT Show into GGF
Membership with a unique Members’
Certificate presentation by GGF President
Andrew Glover to his brother Matthew,
Director of The FIT Show, on the GGF’s
stand at The FIT Show, in the Telford
International Centre.
Since the FIT Show was started up in
2012 (with the first show in 2013), the GGF
has always supported the UK industry’s
biggest trade show with promotion,
technical support and sponsorship. In March
this year, the relationship was strengthened
further when the GGF and The FIT Show co-
exhibited and supported each other at the
Fensterbau Frontale exhibition in Germany.
Paul Godwin, Managing Director of The
FIT Show commented, “The Fabricator
Installer Trade Show - The FIT Show
- has quickly become the recognised
showcase for the window, door, glazing
and conservatory industry and it was a
natural progression for us to join the GGF,
the recognised official body for the industry.
We are privileged to be accepted and to
enjoy a unique position alongside the other
members that manufacture and install so
many of the products represented at The FIT
Show.”

INSTALLED IN JUST FOUR HOURS
»»Prefix Systems has formally launched
their ‘Traditional Verandah’ solution, with
several installations already completed, as
the company looks to expand its impressive
outdoor living range collection.
Verandah is another innovation from the
in-house research and development function
at Prefix Systems and brings to market a
fully bespoke Verandah solution that can be
installed in under four hours.
Traditional aesthetics grace the the
Vernadah with detailed post, column covers
and decorative brackets, while a superior
crackle black finish is offered as standard, with
other colours and options available. A classic
option is also available, which satisfies the
requirements for a simplified glazed canopy or
carport with 25mm polycarbonate glazing.
Double glazed units are offered as standard
and there’s the option of a gutter system or
bar overhang detail without guttering. The
traditional system has the higher specification
aluminium glazing bars, whilst the classic
option utilises the PVCu clad glazing bars.
Lead time is just 10 days and there’s the added
facility to have the post and eaves beam
delivered as one complete goal post, for even
easier fitting on site.

FIT SHOW ‘GUN AMNESTY’
»»The TruFit® tongue-in-cheek gun amnesty
was a huge hit at the FIT Show, says
Edgetech UK. The amnesty saw window
fitters and installers hand over silicone guns
in exchange for a reel of TruFit. Visitors were
even asking for TruFit, the expanding foam
edge tape from Edgetech UK, by name.
“Installation companies were interested
in the cost-savings and time-saving
opportunities for their fitting teams. They
could also see the selling advantages of
installing windows in a way which maintains
Window Energy Ratings and TruFit is proven
to have up to 23% less heat loss on average
than traditional fitting methods,” explained

Mel Jones, Territory Sales Manager –
Window Products at Edgetech UK.
The recent revision of the BS8213-4:2016
standards see foam fitting tapes added to the
code of practice for the survey and installation
of windows and doors and has come at a
time when interest in the alternative method is
high.
“The chang es to the code of practice
which came into place at the end of 2015
have given window installation companies
the confidence to fully embrace the
opportunity to modernise and systemise their
window fitting methods by using installation
tape,” continued Mel.
Expanding foam edge tape like TruFit has
a proven track record of performance in the
commercial glazing sector where it has been
used for some time, and this change in the
domestic market offers extra opportunities
for distributors and installers.
