TAKING ON THE
BORDER2BORDER
CYCLING CHALLENGE
»»GLASS AND GLAZING
Federation (GGF) President,
Andrew Glover, is this month
taking part in the GM Fundraising
Border2Border Cycling Challenge,
joining 17 other riders raising
money for Hope House Children’s
Hospices.
The ride, sponsored by fellow
GGF Member Deceuninck, will
take place over 11 days and will
span a staggering 2,016 miles
between Vancouver, Canada, and
Tijuana, Mexico, offering up
more than 92,000 feet of climbing
with temperatures in excess of 40
degrees.
Each of the 18 riders will
raise a minimum of £3,500 in
sponsorship and combined with
the income from kit sponsorship
and the headline sponsor, the
fundraising target for Border 2
Border is £100,000. Every penny
raised will go directly to Hope
House Children’s Hospices because
the riders and support team will
each cover their own personal
costs such as flights, hotels and
subsistence.
Andrew commented, “We will
set off from Vancouver on 12th
June 2016 and will cross seven
mountain ranges as we make
our way to the Mexican border.
Much of the ride will be taking
place in the absolute wilderness
of mountains and deserts
including the Cascade Mountains,
Colombian Plateau, Sacramento
Valley, Californian Coastal
Mountains, the Sierra Nevada,
the Mojave Desert and the San
Antonio Mountains.
“Obviously we don’t do this for
fun – it’s incredibly hard! We do
this to raise much needed funds
for Hope House. Every penny
that is donated goes directly to
the charity to helping some very
poorly and dying children get
support and respite. If you have
ever had the opportunity to visit
Hope House, or indeed any other
Children’s Hospice, you would
understand why we put ourselves
through such difficult challenges
to raise money.”

SUPPORT FOR CONSTRUCTION PAYMENT CHARTER
»»BUSINESSES IN THE
construction industry can now demonstrate
their commitment to fair payment by
becoming a signatory to the Construction
Supply Chain Payment Charter.
The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) as
Members of Build UK supports the principles

of the Payment Charter, which clearly sets
out the existing public sector requirement for
payment within 30 days, alongside payment
terms of 45 days for private sector projects
reducing to 30 days by 2018. The Payment
Charter also includes clear commitments
in respect of retentions, ‘pay less’ notices,
variations and Supply Chain Finance
schemes.
By signing up to the Payment Charter, a
company agrees to apply the commitments
in its dealings with its supply chain, to be
monitored on its compliance in line with the
new statutory reporting requirements when
they come into force later this year, and to
consider the performance of its supply chain
when awarding contracts.
With current payment practices holding
back the industry and affecting the businesses
of both Main and Specialist Contractors, fair
payment has been identified as a priority for
Build UK and they are working to set out
what best practice looks like. The Payment
Charter is one of a series of measures being
taken forward, which together have the
potential to fundamentally change the
payment culture within construction.
Nigel Rees, GGF Group Chief Executive
commented,
“Companies signing this Charter
voluntarily are taking a positive step towards
creating more transparency in their payment
performance and processes while creating the
right conditions for the industry’s supply chain
to grow and thrive.”
To apply, a company must first sign up to
the Prompt Payment Code (PPC). Signatories
to the PPC that operate in the construction
sector will then be listed in a drop down
menu on the Construction Supply Chain
Payment Charter website and they will be
validated before being sent a link to the online
application form for the Payment Charter. To
sign up to the Payment Charter, companies
will need to provide information on their
standard payment terms, retentions and any
supply chain finance scheme they operate.
