Whistling through
the nominations
»»Thistle Windows and
Conservatories has again asserted
its position among the very best in
the conservatory industry, by being
nominated for a G14 award.
It also comes just weeks after
Thistle won Network VEKA’s
national top installer trophy,
giving it 13 national and regional
awards in the organisation’s 17year history and maintaining its
lead as the top national trophy
winner.

Thistle’s Nick Robson said
after the G14 ceremony: “The
Network VEKA awards are based
on the acclaim of our customers
and the G14 nomination is the
recognition of our peers in the
industry so both accolades are
equally important to us but in
different ways.”
Nick was quick to credit all
the staff at Thistle for their part
in its success and also Glazerite
for its support as fabricator for

the past two years: “Glazerite
gives us not only a great product,
but also the kind of service
and technical support that are
important to any successful
installer.”

He added: “Watch out for us
at the G15s – we’ll be trying even
harder to win next year!”

INITIATIVE OF THE
YEAR AWARD
»»GLASSOLUTIONS’
commitment to environmental
sustainability has been given
industry approval at the G14
awards where it received the
Environmental Initiative of the
Year award.
GLASSOLUTIONS won
the award for its investment
in a unique scientific study at
the Energy House at Salford
University. The research project
measured the contribution
that GLASSOLUTIONS
glass makes to the energy
performance of the whole
house, as well as the
performance of the windows. It
provided further evidence that
high performance glass from
GLASSOLUTIONS can cut

energy use and the contribution
is the equivalent of adding
150mm of loft insulation.
GLASSOLUTIONS
marketing director Mike
Butterick, who collected the
award alongside managing
director Simon Carin, said:
“Winning the Environmental
Initiative of the Year award is
a fantastic achievement which
recognises the company’s
commitment to developing
sustainable products and
processes.
“We are planning Phase 2 to
further develop the research.
This is vital data that will
impact on future product
development and investment
in energy saving solutions. It’s
a step-change in the industry
and we have opened the door
for other manufacturers and
installers to show what their
systems are capable of.”

Rising Apprentice Star
»»Jordan Watt, a rising
apprentice star has excelled
within the Cornwall Glass
Group, demonstrating the value
of apprentices within the work
force. Over his three years
with the group, Jordan has
rapidly progressed to a branch
assistant, promoted to second in
command!
Jordan began his career with
Cornwall Glass back in October
2011 as an apprentice glazier
based at the groups Redruth
Glass Centre. He gained valuable
experience in glazing and also
completed his NVQ.
Gaining more experience by
working in other Cornwall Glass
Groups branches, Jordan learned
new skills and throughout this
period, he was been given more

responsibility at the branches,
organising the daily operations of
the branch.
Recently, Jordan has moved to
Ray’s Glass Centre in Penzance
to further his glass & glazing
knowledge and experience. He
has fast become an asset in his
new role as second in command
within a well-established branch,
as well as helping the branches
new apprentice, Daniel O’Connor,
passing on his experiences and
knowledge of his apprenticeship
journey.
