INDUSTRYNEWS Up and Running in 48 hours »»Having experienced a huge increase in sales year-onyear, fast growing composite door manufacturer, DOORCO has now moved into new and much larger premises to facilitate further growth in the future. Renovation work completed on the 36,000 sqft facility, which is within a stone’s throw of the previous premises in Macclesfield, in early November 2015, with machinery and equipment moved in, up and running in just 48 hours. This reinvestment in the business marks a major commitment to the UK market, and ensures that the company can continue to deliver what customers need to get ahead in this competitive sector. Jayne Sullivan, Operations Director at DOORCO explains: “We had searched for a long time to find a location which suited all of our requirements, and we’re delighted that the new facility in Macclesfield does just that. The new building provides a real opportunity for us to integrate our manufacturing and distribution divisions, which in turn provides greater flexibility for us as a business, as well as much needed space to future proof the company in line with the rapid growth and influx of big industry names coming on board that we have experienced. “As with everything we do, we put a great deal of detailed planning and hard work into the moving process to ensure it went as smoothly as possible in order to minimise any downtime for customers. We used a variety of local companies, all of whom worked together to very tight deadlines in order to get everything in and working as it should be. “We were thrilled to receive so much support from our industry friends and partners –who were fantastic in helping out when we needed them. Most importantly, of course, our customers have been brilliant.” www.door-co.com Commercial building helped construction sector to achieve a strong 2015 finish »»The commercial construction sector helped the building industry to finish 2015 in a strong position, according to the latest survey of purchasing managers from financial information business Markit/CIPS. The UK Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) said buyers were feeling more optimistic in December 2015 than the previous month, registering a score of 57.8. This reading is an increase on the 55.3 seen in November and higher than the 50 mark that is generally seen in the survey as an indication of growth. The new high point was reached in part due to a strong performance from commercial construction, which saw its fastest period of growth since October 2014. It is a trend that could be set to continue through 2016, with respondents to the survey indicating that improved economic conditions would help to push up demand for commercial projects. House-building was also up in November 2015 score, a rise which some observers attributed to government measures to boost activity in the sector. There were additional increases in new business volumes, which rose at the second fastest rate 24 » F EB 2016 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M since July 2015, thanks partly to a boost in general market confidence. This in turn led to an increase in job creation, while the use of subcontractors also jumped up from the November 2015 data. And the positive picture is set to continue over the course of 2016, as more than half of survey respondents said they expected to see an increase in business activity. Tim Moore, senior economist at Markit said: “UK construction companies finished 2015 in a positive fashion. “Across the UK construction sector as a whole, the latest survey indicated a strong degree of optimism about the outlook for 2016, with firms mainly citing a strong pipeline of commercial development projects and new housing starts. “There were also reports that sustained improvements in UK economic conditions had led to upbeat expectations for clients’ budget setting for the year ahead.” www.citb.co.uk
