Innovation gets thumbs up

»»
HARDWARE EXPERTS , CALDWELL UK Ltd , unveiled its FoldUp window , a first for the industry , at the FIT Show 2016 , where it drew admiration from the crowds and the seal of approval from manufacturers .
The FoldUp window combines highperformance operation with traditional appearance . It looks identical to a vertical sliding sash window but operates similarly to the concertina mechanism on a bifold ; and has a weight capacity of up to 70kg .
Demand for this product for its intended installation is low , but Caldwell spotted an alternative market for FoldUp where it could satisfy bigger demand and offer increased sales opportunities for manufacturers . Tim Ferkin , Sales and Marketing Director , comments : “ The primary use of the FoldUp system in the US is commercial applications , such as bars and restaurants , to create an open plan environment and increase air flow into a building .
“ We ’ re keen to champion the product in the UK as it will allow our customers to take advantage of new sales opportunities . The FoldUp window is the smallest hung egress solution currently on the market and is an ideal solution to meet Building Regulations for fire escapes in residential and commercial buildings .”

SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN WARNS OF RISKS OF PLAYING ON CONSTRUCTION SITES THIS SUMMER

»»
FOLLOWING A RECENT spate of children suffering serious or sometimes fatal injuries , VPS Site Security is seeking to get the message across to young people about the dangers of vacant sites being used as playgrounds .
Using some hard-hitting images , the digital media campaign aims to reduce the number of incidents of young people playing in and around or on the rooftops of building works or empty sites .
“ We estimate that probably over 3,000 young people are taking risks every week trespassing on construction sites or vacant buildings ,” says Simon Alderson , Managing Director of VPS Site Security .
As summer holidays approach , unattended construction sites will become a magnet for children looking to explore and play in them , despite being full of hidden dangers such as roofs and glass window frames .
The campaign is not just directed at young people . Anyone who owns , or controls , a site has a legal duty of care to protect people on the site from foreseeable harm , even people who are trespassing . People injured on a site , even unauthorised trespassers , can sue the owners and managers for negligence and for responsibility for their injuries .
