SUFFOLK-BASED Network VEKA member company , Frames Conservatories Direct ( FCD ), has illustrated the pioneering trade organisation ’ s cooperative spirit in action , inviting other Network members to its showroom to discuss and share examples of best practice , branding , promotion and lead generation .
The Bury St Edmunds company has proven a revelation since joining Network VEKA , claiming awards for
Best Newcomer in 2014 and national Overall Winner in the two subsequent years , at the organisation ’ s Annual General Meeting and prize-giving .
Adrian Lewis , MD at Frames Conservatories Direct , explains : “ Being a Network VEKA member has been hugely instrumental in our continuing success , largely as we have embraced the numerous benefits that the organisation provides . We aimed to showcase to other , perhaps smaller member companies , approaches to marketing , data gathering and lead generation that they may not have considered , and ways that the Network ’ s provision can support them in practice .”
Ross Billings , Assistant Manager at Rainham ’ s The Glasshouse , agreed : “ The day was a great insight into a larger company ’ s way of doing things . The showroom was amazing and has an example of everything a customer could possibly want to see . We were given some great marketing ideas and FCD has sent us some marketing campaigns to edit and use .”

TREMCO ILLBRUCK has produced a CPD training module to explain how its membranes and sealants can be used to overcome the problems of differential movement in timber frame structures .
Timber frame is one of the fastest-growing construction methods in UK . It accounts for over 25 % of the housing market ( more than 50 % in Scotland ) and is also popular in the construction of multi-storey apartment buildings , nursing homes and the social housing and self-build markets .
However , differential movement caused by shrinkage of the timber frame in relation to the external cladding can cause problems if no allowance for this movement is included within the design and installation .
Aimed at timber frame designers and installers , tremco illbruck ’ s CPD ( entitled Timber Frame Construction : Differential Movement – Considerations relating to window installation ) provides an introduction to the timber frame market , gives an indication of considerations affecting building in timber frame , explains the factors relevant to differential movement and suggests product solutions that can effectively solve the associated problems .
The key focus is on the problem of differential movement or settlement with an explanation of what causes this and the associated issue of weather tightness and airtightness .

LIBRARY EXTENSION AND NEW STUDENT CENTRE ARE DOUBLE WINNERS

ON 23 JUNE 2016 AT A SPECIAL luncheon on the 42nd Floor of London ’ s Leadenhall Building , the Albert Sloman Library and Silberrad Student Centre at the University of Essex were announced as the winners of both the Overall Excellence Award and Education category Award in this year ’ s Schueco Excellence Awards for Design and Innovation .
Organised by Schueco UK , in conjunction with RIBA Journal , the Schueco Excellence Awards , now in their third year , were set up to recognize outstanding architecture and the very best in the design and installation of Schueco systems in Great Britain and Eire .
Both the winning buildings , one a six-storey extension of the university ’ s 1963 brutalist library and the other a new-build centre for UoE students , are the work of London-based architects , Patel Taylor . The judges were impressed by the architectural detailing and imaginative skill on display in two very different projects .
Both , however , make extensive and varied use of Schueco ’ s FW 50 + SG curtain walling system , which Patel Taylor Associate , Roger Meyer , described as ‘ the right system with the most flexibility which was vital to the delivery of the project ’.
The specialist contractor involved in the design , fabrication and installation of the Schueco systems was HW Architectural .
