AL UMINIUM HS2 TO CREATE BIG BOOST FOR THE ALUMINIUM SECTOR » » PRIME MINISTER THERESA MAY recently confirmed High Speed 2 (HS2), a high-speed railway in the UK linking London, Birmingham, the East Midlands, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester, will go ahead. A report by KPMG says the new rail project could boost the UK economy by £15bn a year and will create 22,000 construction jobs in the next five years. Mike Davis, Managing Director of specialist aluminium fabricator CDW Systems, comments: “HS2 is set to provide a big boost for the aluminium sector as specifiers on projects around the rail-line look to aluminium as the material of choice.” Whilst Mike praises the government’s investment in HS2, he questions why it doesn’t invest in other big infrastructure projects, while interest rates are low. He comments: “Base interest rates are at an all-time low of 0.25% and have been around this mark for the past five years, meaning that this period would be the perfect time for government to borrow money for more big infrastructure projects. Cuts have been made to investments in schools and hospitals but not why invest in these sectors and create jobs and supply side benefits?” www.cdwsystems.co.uk www.clearview-uk.com Expanding into aluminium » » WHEN OUTSTANDING Oxfordshire double-glazing specialists, Andy Glass, wanted to expand into aluminium, they were afraid it could be a headache. Over twenty- five years of hard work and commitment to quality, they’d established themselves as the region’s leading provider of PVCu windows, doors and conservatories – but aluminium was a new challenge, and one they feared would prove stressful, expensive and time- consuming to master. Fortunately for them, they contacted the Window Outlet – the dynamic aluminium fabricator that’s grown from Bristol start-up to one of the industry’s biggest and most respected suppliers off the back of its signature short lead times, quick quote turnarounds. The firm has extensive experience helping installers expand into aluminium – and an in-depth understanding of the common issues PVCu companies face as they make the change. Managing Director, Ben Warren, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Andy Glass, they’re an incredibly experienced, respected installer, and it’s been a pleasure helping them establish themselves in the aluminium market. We’d encourage any other PVCu installers looking to enhance their offering with stylish, high-quality aluminium products to get in touch, and we’ll do our utmost to help them make the transition.” www.the-window-outlet.co.uk EN 14351-1:2006+A1:2010 Pedestrian doorsets for escape routes.
