PROUD SPONSOR OF DOORS & WINDOWS DOORS&WINDOWS INSTALLING A VERTICAL SLIDER IN 7 SIMPLE STEPS Have you ever experienced difficulties when installing vertical sliding sash windows? The experts at Synseal Group talk you through the best practice for installing an Evolve VS. 1. It might be an obvious point to make, but make sure the aperture you’re fitting the window into is square. We recommend measuring the diagonal as well as the width and height of both the window and the aperture for a perfect fit. Top tip! Vertical sliders must be stored upright to prevent the frame from bowing. Large frames may barrel slightly before installation, but this is normal and is corrected when the frame has been installed. Fix the cleats 150mm from each of the corners with 20mm self-drilling screws, with the gap between two fixings not exceeding 600mm. If you have a wider gap you’ll need to fit additional cleats along the width and height of the window. We suggest using the back edge of the window for retrofits into plaster, or tapping in to the middle of the frame for new builds. 2. 3. 4. Fit the end caps using super glue, and tapping into place with a rubber mallet. Place packers onto the surface of the aperture or sit the window on a mortar bed but check the surface is level before lifting the frame into place. Check the window is square and level then drill the cleats into place – watch out for the centre cleats though, as drilling these in too far can open up the gap between the sash and the frame. We recommend putting side packers in place before drilling to prevent this. Top tip! We don’t recommend using expanding foam for installing vertical sliders. However if this is your preferred method, we suggest placing a packer between the sash and the frame and leaving it until the foam has set to help prevent bowing. 5. 6. Mark and drill holes for the pole eye handles before screwing in place. We recommend installing them on the top of the upper sash, vertically in-line with the pre- fixed handles.
