of the area as well as the end user
benefits of that type of window.
Understanding climatic challenges
is something we do. Rain, snow,
wind and sun, our hinge solutions
are produced with this in mind
and developed to embrace the
force of nature.
“It is an incredible story and
one that has seen our business
flourish significantly. Even now
we are opening up brand new
territories, which are largely
untapped by the window industry
including in the Far East and the
Middle East.
“We continue to develop our
product range and our newest
addition is the Spilka Opus hinge
solution, which is secure, hidden
from the outside and continues
the great functionality of an
outward opening window,” Frank
concludes.

Norwegian Fjords is one of the
most recognisable sites in the
area. Right in the middle of the
fjords, one of Norway’s most
recognisable companies, Spilka,
has its headquarters from where
they have exported reversible
hinges to the UK since the
1980’s.
But, in part because of its
geographical location, Spilka
sees a different view of the
‘fenestration’ world than much
of the UK window and door
industry. While those in the UK
have sought supply from the Far
East and Baltic states over the
past decade, Spilka has developed
those same territories as sales
regions, with extensive customer
bases.
It is an entirely opposite supply
chain experience to that which
many in the UK are familiar
with. Spilka’s UK national sales
manager, Frank Fay, explains
further, “As someone based in the
UK, I have seen the industry here
develop a complete network of
suppliers in the Far East and the
Baltic and Northern European
states.
“At the same time I have
watched our company develop the
same regions as sales territories
and I have seen the appetite for
our reversible hinges grow at a
rapid rate.
“There are huge development
plans in many of these countries
for apartment blocks, hotels, and
standard housing, with a desire

Spilka of Norway is the originator of the hinge
solution for production of fully reversible
windows. Aer launching the innovation in 1959
this type of outward opening windows soon
became a Scandinavian “window-standard”.
Today Spilka have sold over 40 million hinges to
customers in more than 25 countries on four continents
– with the UK as a key market since the early 1970s.
Using Spilka hardware system solutions, you can
manufacture energy efficient windows of the highest
quality. Needless to say; our Scandinavian design
will ensure a window with excellent wind and rain
resistance, and remain easy to operate through its
entire lifecycle.
