HARDWARE& SECURITY
SOPHISTICATED NEW WEBSITE
»»USA-BASED INTERNATIONAL
hardware giant, Caldwell Group, has
appointed British digital agency, Purplex,
to develop a powerful new website portal
that is technically rich in information for its
customers and specifiers alike.
Caldwell Group, which includes UK
manufacturer Cotswold Architectural, needed
a solution that was platform agnostic and
operated across desktop, laptop, tablet and
mobile devices.
The resulting new website has not only been
designed and built by the team at Purplex but the
team also provided support with writing technical
web copy, photography and a video shot.
The end result is a content rich and
engaging website that supports Caldwell
and its stockist network with a sales and
marketing hub, packed with its latest
innovations - backed up with high quality
images, in-depth product information,
details, datasheets, manuals and sales support
documents.
Tim Ferkin, sales and marketing director at
Caldwell, comments: “We have a gargantuan
product range and we needed a site that was
big, technical and put the user first. Purplex
delivered on all three points and we now have
a best in class website that is great for us and
our customer base.”

New security report replaces opinion with fact
»»BRISANT’S NEW DOMESTIC DOOR
Security Report January 2016 presents the
most comprehensive and compelling research
on security the industry has seen. The report,
New security report replace opinion with fact
from the creator of Ultion, the top performing
high security cylinder door lock, combines the
latest national Crime Survey from the Office
for National Statistics with recent national
polls of homeowners and independent
locksmiths.
The report reveals that 43% of burglaries
through doors are by forcing the lock and, in
9 out of 10 of forced lock burglaries, entry
was gained by snapping. In addition, 85%
of homeowners said security was the most
important factor when choosing their new
door.
Brisant CEO, Steve Stewart, says: “The
industry is using out of date and incorrect
assumptions based on thirty year old ‘facts’
from small sample surveys and best guesses.
We decided to commission two large-scale
national surveys of 671 homeowners and 306
locksmiths to distinguish fact from opinion
masquerading as fact. We then took the
findings from these two surveys and combined
information from the National Crime
Survey.
‘We are being burgled. Why? Because we
make it easy for burglars and we want to
change all that.’

GETTING TO GRIPS
»»BREAKING EVERY BEST
practice guideline in the book,
Mila has instructed all of its sales
managers to lift and carry their
new window samples just by the
handle.
It’s not any ordinary handle
though, but the new Mila GRIP
espag handle in ABS, and Mila
wants to provide fabricators and
installers with real life evidence of
just how strong it really is.
Managing Director, Richard
Gyde, says: “Obviously, we don’t
usually advise customers to lift
windows using just the handle
when they’re out on site, but we
know that it often does happen
and we’re absolutely confident
that our GRIP handle can cope
with it.
“In fact, we got the idea from
one of our biggest customers who
challenged us to prove GRIP’s
strength by carrying a window
up a ladder with just the handle
as some of their installers do.
We went one better and got our
Test Centre engineers to carry a

up and down a ladder over and
over again using just the handle. Of
course, at the end, there were no
signs of damage or weakness.”
The GRIP handle will be on
display at the FIT Show 2016.
