In 1997, Neil Rodgers and Tracy
Basden spotted the potential in
the growing colour applicator
sector and opened their business
– ColourKote, in Hansworth
Sheffield in South Yorkshire
and became one of the first
businesses to take advantage of
the trend.
They moved to their current
premises in Dinnington, also in
South Yorkshire, in 2004 when
the market was vibrant market
and this new product available to
the fabricators was seen as a major,
innovative, added value product.
The colour applicator sector saw
the very best of the market from
2001 until 2006. Order books
were full and the length and
breadth of the country this niche
market enjoyed its best period
and grew considerably.
In 2007, however, the uPVC
extruders recognised the threat
from the applicators and started
to extrude a small range of
coloured profiles. But in doing
so, they failed to extrude a
full coloured system - leaving
the applicators to provide the
additional profiles, cill 2
