Taking PVC-U to the next level
In this mature market many
of the new products that are
introduced are simply variations
on a theme. Genuinely new
products that offer something
substantially different are
rare.
So when such a product does
come along, there’s good reason
to get excited, not least because
of the opportunities it presents
for installers looking for a
competitive edge.
One example is the Genesis
Vertical Slider from Bison Frames.
Bison’s R&D team developed this
PVC-U window acceptable for
use in Grade II listed buildings
and conservation areas. So the
‘superb security,
low maintenance’
first thing that you notice is the
use of traditional timber jointing
methods rather than the usual
45 degree welds that you see on
PVC-U. A deep bottom rail as
standard, run-through sash horns,
an optional Georgian Astragal
bar and a complete range of
authentic woodgrain and heritage
coloured foil options complete
the stunningly authentic heritage
appearance. Yet features such as
superb security, low maintenance
high-quality spiral balances, a
tilt-open facility and WER ratings
of A, B and C make it a modern
window packed with features that
aid installers.

SCHUECO LAUNCHES NEW
MANUAL VERSION OF ‘PANORAMIC’
SLIDING DOOR SYSTEM
Aluminium systems specialist,
Schueco UK Ltd, has further
augmented its range of glazed,
panoramic sliding doors with a
manual version of its successful
Schueco ASS 77 PD.HI
system.
With ultra-slim sightlines (the
interlock stile width is only 30
mm) and a perimeter frame
entirely concealed within the
wall, the new door provides
maximum transparency and
virtually uninterrupted external
views.
The Schueco ASS 77 PD.HI
can accommodate double or
triple-glazing which, with the
door’s thermally insulated
frames, delivers ‘U’ values as
low as 1.1 W/m2K. The glazing
is bonded to the door leaf to
ensure structural integrity and
multi-point locking delivers
security to EN 1627 RC2
standard.
As in the motorised version,
the track in the manual ASS
77 PD.HI system forms part
of the sliding door leaf with
the rollers integrated into the
sill profile. Panels can be up
to 3.2 m wide and 3.0 m high
with a maximum panel weight
of 300 kg, yet thanks to an
advanced ergonomic handle, the
door remains easy to open and
close.

Distinction Door’s Nan Ya slab leads
the market in thermal efficiency
The strength of Distinction Door’s position
as a UK market leader in composite doors
was recently reinforced when its Nan Ya
doorset was tested at the University of
Salford’s Energy House, showing that
the Nan Ya 44.5mm slab was 19% more
thermally efficient than a 48mm solid
timber core composite door and 17% more
thermally efficient than a 44mm traditional
timber panelled door.
The reason is the Nan Ya slab’s high
performance insulated core, made up of a high
density CFC-free PV foam.

The door is proven to the BS
6375-1 classification for weather
tightness, air, wind and water
and, once installed, far exceeds
the requirements of Approved
Document L of the Building
Regulations.
As marketing manager Chantel Roach,
says, the market-leading thermal efficiency
is a vital selling point. Combined with
stunning aesthetics, a huge range of design,
colour and triple glazed glass options plus
excellent security as standard, the Nan Ya GRP
composite door slab from Distinction Doors is
a competition-beating product.
