INDUSTRYNEWS LETTERS TO THE EDITOR PLEASE HELP US TO HELP FIND A CURE FOR CANCER We are taking part in the gruelling 3 Peaks Challenge for our chosen charity because we have all lost someone to cancer - or have people close to us who have lost someone to cancer or are battling it. Put simply we want to do our bit to help find a cure. We are a group of friends, work colleagues and associates all of whom have been affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly. We are not super fit. In fact some of us are barely fit! But we wanted to find a challenge that had some real substance when we are asking people to part with their hard-earned money to support us and our chosen charity. Shaving your head may raise a few quid but it’s not exactly challenging or asking too much of yourself to do it. The three peaks challenge means we need to climb up and down the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales non-stop in a 24 hour period. Most of us are used to climbing the odd flight of stairs or at a push a ladder - so make no mistake - this will be a big challenge for all of us. But as tough as we may find this, we are acutely aware that in comparison to the people who live with cancer, this trip up and down three mountains will be a doddle. Worldwide, around 15 million people are diagnosed with cancer every year and it’s not selective about who it chooses or when it strikes. This disease needs a cure, it affects all of us so it’s up to all of us to find ways to raise the money that funds the research that finds the cure, otherwise it won’t happen. Please dig deep and help us to help cancer research. ‘make no mistake - this will be a big challenge for all of us’ THOM EMERSON, Sales & Marketing Director, Ideal Window Solutions Ltd, Fareham, Hampshire. PROBLEMS WITH QUALITY CERTIFICATES I am writing to you to find out if any of your readers have had problems with the notified bodies that provide them with their quality certificates? I have spent months trying to obtain a copy of my EN1279 Part 2 Initial Type Test Report from BSI, to no avail. I have been given all sorts of excuses and even been asked if I had changed my company name since the certificate was issued – which I have not. It’s a problem for me because I need the information to comply with the new CE Marking legislation and I feel BSI – a company that assesses others on their 28 APR 2014 internal systems – is severely lacking in its own. I’m frustrated because Key West Glass is a quality company that likes to stay ahead of legislation and yet an organisation whose job it is to ensure quality in other companies, is holding us back. Are other companies out there in a similar position?
