The Sun Rises on Forest Park ... Awards and Pledges
Refuse , Recycling & Compost Center Summer Hours Beginning March 15 , the Compost / Recycling Center ( 1381 W . Kennedy Road on the south side of Rte . 60 ) will be open on Saturdays , 8 a . m . -5 p . m . and Sundays , 9 a . m . -5 p . m . Residents may drop off yard waste , unwanted household items , metal cans , glass , plastics (# 1-7 ), newspapers , magazines , corrugated cardboard and office paper for recycling . Unacceptable items include appliances with CFCs , asbestos , batteries , pants / chemicals , tires and food waste . To use the Center , please display either a current LF vehicle sticker or a resident beach permit . Driver ’ s licenses will not be accepted as proof of residency , and no commercial contractor use of the facility is allowed . Please call 847.615.4264 for more information .
Hydrant Flushing Beginning in April , the City will begin flushing fire hydrants to remove accumulated sediment build-up . This will improve water flow and quality throughout the main water system . A detailed schedule will be available on the City ’ s website in March .
Compost at Home : Purchase an Earth Machine The Earth Machine is available to Lake Forest residents for $ 55 , a cost lower than that offered by most retailers . This home composter includes a handbook with assembly instructions , how to compost , what to compost , and using compost . Typical items to compost include fruit and vegetable scraps , coffee grounds and filters . To place your order , please call 847.810.3542 . The City will deliver the Earth Machine to your home and send you an invoice .
The American Public Works Association ( APWA ) recognized The Forest Park Project with an Historic Restoration / Preservation Award . This is the fourth award for Forest Park , which was previously recognized by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission , Lake Forest Preservation Foundation , and the Garden Club of America .
The proceeds of the current final phase of fundraising will ensure that the spectacular vistas , plantings and natural areas including woodlands , ravines , and bluffs are maintained . The opportunity to give to the project to meet the final goal of $ 150,000 ends on December 31 , 2017 , and all gifts of $ 1000 or more will be listed permanently on Forest Park ’ s Donor Board . Reminder : The City ’ s water conservation program goes into effect May 15-September 15 annually , and during that time , sprinkling is only allowed from midnight-10 a . m . and 8 p . m . -midnight .
