Get Ready for the 6th Annual Bike Rodeo

Saturday , May 20 , 10 a . m . -2 p . m . in the Deerpath and Oakwood Avenue Parking Lot ; free . May is National Bike Month , a perfect time for the Lake Forest Police Department Bike Rodeo ! The school year is coming to an end and a refresher course during the Bike Rodeo about bike safety will help the kids enjoy safe summer biking . The entire family will enjoy a day of fun , food , games and prizes . Kids , bring your bikes and helmets to try your skills at the many safety stations . Be sure to catch BMW Champion Marshall Gehrke as he demonstrates his award-winning skills .

Citizens Police Academy

Have you ever wondered what it ’ s like to be a police officer in Lake Forest ? The 22nd session of the Academy begins on Wednesday , March 1 , 7-10 p . m . at the Police Department , 255 W . Deerpath . This free , 10-week program is designed to promote and enhance understanding and awareness of the role of the Police Department and give students a view of the world through the “ law enforcement lens .” Topics include :
• Criminal Investigations
• Juvenile Law
• Patrol Operations
• Police use of force
• Officer self-defense
• SWAT and Riot Control

Citizens Fire Academy

On Thursday , April 6 , the next session of the Citizens Fire Academy will take place for 6 weeks from 7-10 p . m . at the Fire Station , 255 W . Deerpath . This is a free , interactive program designed to familiarize citizens with personnel , equipment and operations . It also provides a forum for the Department and the public to share information and concerns . Topics include :
• Fire Apparatus / Engine Operations
• Fire Gear and Emergency Medical Services
• Incident Command
• Mutual Aid
• Auto Extrication

NEW - Junior Citizens Police Academy
This new free program is a new offering for students heading into grades 7 and 8 in the fall of 2017 . It will be held at the Police Department from Monday , June 12-Friday , June 16 , from 9 a . m . -noon . Kids will learn about Evidence Collection , Self-Defense , Traffic Stops and more .
