Welcome to City Cottage

Welcome to our third offering! We hope you will enjoy it.

We have been extremely busy, not to mention the flood and the gardening projects, we have revamped our website at www.citycottage.co.uk and we are making progress with our podcasts too!

We have also been making a number of films, one of which is in this issue - and I have to say it is the very best way to cook Dublin Bay prawns you can get!

We also have a book out in October, our curing book which goes into how to make your own bacon and ham as well as umpteen other recipes for delicacies such as biltong. We have six pre release copies still available - find the ad in the mag!

We have a new group on Facebook. You can still get us on the City Cottage page, and also on Paul and Diana’s page, but we have a cheesemaking page and a new homemade sausage page, which has seen some great growth in recent days.

We are working hard to get the garden into shape right now, pulling up a lot of privets which were shading and growing more quickly than anyone could have imagined. We are also changing the hen run, which is a must - they need to be on fresh ground, or ground where parasites can be easily washed away, to keep them in good health, and now it is getting colder, increasing the corn part of the ration in the evening - it keeps them warm and snug from inside. Ready Brek for hens!

You can help us by sharing our magazine with your friends and sharing it on your social media if you wouldn’t mind. We are hoping to reach the 5000 readership milestone by this time next year, so we need all the help we can get!

This month Darren Wright starts a new series on making the things we need in the garden and elsewhere
