COVER STORY The Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas put the sleepy fishing village of Port Douglas on the map when it opened, heralding a new era that attracted celebrities and visitors in their droves. Almost three decades later a stunning multi-million dollar redevelopment that took more than 12 months to complete is set to have the same effect on this tropical paradise. The beautifully imagined and executed refurbishment extends across all elements of Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas including guest rooms, suites and public areas. All 294 of its reimagined guest rooms embody coastal living and the relaxed paradise of Port Douglas. The fresh colour scheme of the rooms and suites incorporates a selection of natural tones to match the driftwood timber tiled floors, stone-topped mini bars and natural wooden furnishings, with splashes of coastal turquoise green to add subtle pops of colour. A star is reborn The Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas was a game changer for the region when it opened in 1987, and its recent $43 million renovation is set to have to the same effect. The indooroutdoor balconies now feature daybeds that complement the classic interiors, allowing guests to lounge lavishly and comfortably while soaking in the sun and tropical sights. The resort has also introduced 41 Lagoon Edge Rooms and 12 Lagoon Edge Studio Suites on the ground floor with private balconies offering guests direct access to the resort’s saltwater lagoon swimming pools. The all-encompassing refresh also features the Sheraton brand’s debut of SPG Keyless 8   Convention & Incentive Marketing, Issue 8, 2016    www.cimmagazine.com in Asia Pacific, the industry’s first truly mobile and keyless entry system that allows Starwood Preferred Guest members to use their smartphone as a key to their rooms through the SPG app.  Beyond the guest rooms, Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas also features a reinvigorated lobby experience, with a revamped porte cochére and main entrance, featuring natural tones and pockets of tropical gardens. The introduction of 26 cabanas in prime locations surrounding the two hectares of lagoon pools redefines poolside relaxation. Guests can also enjoy a variety of enhanced dining options, from the Lobby Café which offers a fresh menu of barista coffee, light meals and snacks, to the debut of the Sheraton brand’s signature restaurant, Feast, featuring an interactive buffet and alfresco poolside dining experience on the outdoor deck with expanded seating to accommodate additional guests.
