Launceston recently won the bid to host the
International Farm Management Association
World Congress in 2019. More than 250 delegates
will converge on the city for the five-day
congress will also attend two-week long pre- and
post-conference tours across Tasmania.
Nettlefold says there is a growing awareness of
Launceston and its surrounds.
“Really it’s a beautiful city with really elegant
architecture, it’s playful, and it has an eclectic
range of venues. And all those experiences are in
a really compact, walkable city,” he says.

building a new 110-room hotel called the Silo Hotel, which will have some
good meeting and conference space, expected to open early next year.
“Launceston is great in that it has a lot of really good experiences within
or near the city, and within the Cataract Gorge, which is a beautiful natural
asset right in the city. Launceston has a lot to offer and is very accessible by
air – having a major airport in the region as well.”
