The visitor economy is big business in New Zealand . The biggest in fact , with tourism now the nation ’ s number one export earner . That shouldn ’ t come as a surprise to those who have followed the disciplined and well thought out campaign that has seen international visitor numbers climb year on year . A clear strategy , playing to their strengths , investment in tourism infrastructure and increased air access have all contributed to the success story , one that new Tourism New Zealand CEO Stephen England-Hall will want to build on when he takes over the role in April .
