Finding our bearings
Getting industry leaders to pitch their forecast for the year ahead in this global climate is a big ask , but they were game enough to look to the horizon and see what lays ahead .
Last year was by all accounts a resounding success for the Australian visitor economy , with all the arrows from total international visitation through to visitor spend all pointing in the right direction . Governments both at a federal and state level were all singing from the same song sheet when it came to promoting the value of the visitor economy and business events to the wider economy . The boom in visitor numbers has prompted some much needed investment in the accommodation sector , state governments have ploughed money into some huge event infrastructure projects across many cities , and the lower Australian dollar has made us a more attractive option for both international groups and locals looking to make their respective dollars go further .
However , on a global level this year has got off to a rocky start with uncertainty being the key theme . Brexit , Trump and ongoing turmoil in the European Union could combine to turn things on their head over the next 12 months .
