Dr. Peter O’Brien is head
of the Photonics Packag-
ing Group at the Tyndall Na-
tional Institute, University College
Cork, Ireland. He is also Deputy Direc-
tor of the Science Foundation Ireland-Irish
Photonics Integration Centre. Since establishing
the Photonics Packaging Group in 2009, Dr. O’Brien has
built a research team who address challenges in the area of
highly integrated photonic devices for applications in communi-
cations, biomedical devices and sensors.
