As a designer, I am often asked about where I find inspiration. My obsession is
colour. I feel colour in viscerally. I am inspired by palettes all around me whether
it be the paint that has oxidized on a door or a desert sunset, the way colours
dance together always strikes a chord in me and sends me on a quest to recreate
these palettes in my work. Expanding our business to include our own custom
rug and fabric lines enables me to see my inspiration come to life and makes it
available for clients and designers alike to share in this.

Designing our rug collection was initially a very practical initiative. I wanted
to put together designs that I found lacking in my own hunt for rugs. I love to
layer patterns and am known for my love of the mix and my ability to mix scale
and proportion with colour. Unlike many other designers, I rarely start with a
rug as the jumping off point for my designs. I prefer to put fabrics and finishes
in place first and then use the rug to pull the overall look together. I love the
challenge and it feels more like an organic way to pull a scheme together. With
this in mind, I was sure to put together some of my favourite patterns - Fretworks, Ric Rac, Moroccan and of course a Greek Key. These patterns compliment so many of my favourite fabrics and now with my own first fabric collection launched in January 2015 with JF Fabrics through designers across North
America, the palettes too reflect a more cohesive look and make it easier for
designers to work with textiles and rugs in planning their own design schemes.
