Fairmont
ROYAL YORK
Every year for the past 20 years, Fairmont Royal York hosts an
annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on the last Friday of November;
a free event for anyone to attend located in our historic lobby.
It takes a full month to prepare our hotel for this event – with
a total of 47 Christmas trees, and 40,000 Christmas bulbs on
over 100 wreaths and boughs decorated by two very dedicated
full-time “Christmas Elves.” In fact, our magnificent 22ft tall
Festive Tree is decorated with more than 15,000 lights and
countless vintage ornaments. This once a year holiday celebration attracts a vast crowd of hotel guests and Torontonians who
eagerly await the lighting of the tree. The event is put on in part
to bring awareness to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada,
an organization that grants wishes to children diagnosed with life
threatening illnesses, and has granted over 20,000 wishes since
1984. Guests enjoy complimentary egg nog and hot chocolate,
as well as a visit from Santa Claus and a musical performance put
on by a local choir. Toronto is a magical city during the winter
months, with endless sites and attractions to visit. What better
way to experience the holiday season than staying in the heart of
it all at the Fairmont Royal York.
