The City of Vaughan is committed to good
governance and is working to achieve it in
many different ways.
Vaughan set itself apart in 2016,
in Canada and abroad, after
being selected to participate in
a worldwide platform for city
data. The value is in providing
Vaughan with the opportunity to
collaborate with and learn from
more than 250 cities worldwide.
By joining the World Council on
City Data (WCCD), the City
has shown it has reached the
highest standards in collecting
and using research as part of
delivering Service Excellence to
residents. As only the second city
in Canada to achieve platinum
status, Vaughan joined an elite
group of global cities such as
Boston, London, Helsinki, Los
Angeles, Dubai and Toronto.

office holders. A lobbyist registry
has been established and will go into
effect on Jan. 1, 2017. The one-year
pilot project will be a voluntary
registry which will be followed by a
mandatory registry. There will also
be an online presence for lobbyists
to register and members of the
public to review.

It was a busy year for our local utility company, PowerStream Holdings Inc. The
company’s municipal shareholders – Vaughan, Markham and Barrie – agreed to
merge the utility with Enersource Corporation and Horizon Utilities Corporation,
and jointly purchase Hydro One Brampton Networks Inc. This deal, which will
create the second largest electric utility in Ontario based on the total number of
customers served, requires final approval from the Ontario Energy Board.
