A MESSAGE FROM
THE
THIS IS A SPECIAL YEAR FOR VAUGHAN
AS WE MARK AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE –
OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY AS A CITY.
Over the past quarter-century,
Vaughan has experienced significant
transformational change. It has truly
been an incredible journey.
We started off as a small town, but
we’ve always had within us a deep
sense of citizenship and desire to
reach new heights, go forward, move
faster and build a community that
speaks to values rooted in humility,
optimism and hope – all the values
that make this the great city it is
today. Through the collective efforts
of our citizens, we have so many
reasons to be grateful.
Vaughan Council is committed
to creating a place that is vibrant,
dynamic and inclusive. From towers
rising in our new downtown – the
Vaughan Metropolitan Centre – to
getting the site ready for our future
hospital, there is activity, movement
and motion all around us. Everywhere
you look there are opportunities to
improve our quality of life and realize
the bright future of our city.
Vaughan was the first city in York
Region and remains one of the fastestgrowing municipalities in Canada.
We are excited for the future. All of
the great things happening today
are the result of hard work, focus and
a dedication to city-building through
good governance. This is only possible
b ecause of our collective efforts –
citizens, Members of Council, other
levels of government, the business
community, organizations and
institutions – to ensure that we continue
moving in a positive direction.
The Vaughan we are building is a
city with limitless potential. It will
be a place that is respected for its
spirit of innovation, acclaimed for its
responsible planning and economic
leadership, admired for its environmental
stewardship, renowned for its first-class
administration and respect for taxpayers’
dollars, and transformed by the will
of people to be agents of change. This
will position Vaughan at the forefront of
21st-century cities capable of capturing
the imagination of the world.
Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, PC
Mayor
