Building Relationships with the Federal Government
In 2015, agents of the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and
a representative from the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) visited Farmer Tom Organics to set safety standards and best practices for medical cannabis and cannabis workers.
This is one of the few times federal agents have visited an external cannabis grow to do research, especially since cannabis on the federal level is still an illegal substance. To date the University of Mississippi is the only federally approved cannabis research facility. Agents chose Farmer Tom Organics to do their research, due to the fact there aren't many organic small farm grows and not many grows in general that don't use pesticides and dangerous chemicals.
