Steinberg Dorico Score Writer Software Steinberg Media Technologies has released the first iteration of its Dorico score writer software, which has been in development for four years. Designed for aspiring and professional composers, arrangers, music publishers, and music teachers, Dorico offers an uncluttered single-window user interface for both laptops and studio machines, comprising tools and page layout options that facilitate an efficient workflow. Dorico takes advantage of 64-bit multi-core processors to ensure seamless scrolling through the music at all times. It has been designed with high-pixel density, high-resolution displays in mind. Powerful score management features are included to handle multiple independent pieces of music within the same project. Based on Steinberg’s audio engine, Dorico comes with a host of VST instruments and effects. For more information, contact Yamaha Canada Music: 416-298-1311, FAX 416-292-1171, www.ca.yamaha.com. TC-Helicon Critical Mass Gang Vocals Effects Pedal TC-Helicon has released the Critical Mass, a new choir and gang vocals stomp box. It is designed to inject atmosphere into a live vocal perfor- mance. The pedal features a metal chassis designed to withstand the rigors of touring, with three styles of reverb and Adaptive Tone (equalization) to automatically clean up the microphone. The stomp box features four gang and four melodic choir styles, including Unison, Octave Up, Octave Down, and Up and Down, which helps eliminate the need for backing tracks. The Critical Mass can be powered by AA batteries or a 9-V power supply. For more information, contact Intellimix: 514-457-9663, FAX 514- 457-0575, [email protected], www.intellimix.com. Cort AS-OC4 Acoustic-Electric Guitar Cort has released the AS-OC4 acoustic-electric guitar, which features a solid, all-mahogany body with a natural, open-pore finish and orchestra model (OM) cutaway design. The AS-OC4’s mahogany provides balanced dynamics, with bot- tom end response that doesn’t inhibit the top end. Smaller than a dreadnought, the AS-OC4 has the ability to accommodate a variety of acoustic styles. The OM body features the soft, rounded lines of the Venetian cutaway, allowing the player to get more from the highest of the 20 frets. The design is reinforced by Cort’s scalloped x-bracing and dovetail neck joint. Inside the sound hole is the Fishman Sonitone preamp and So- nicore pickup with volume and tone control.
