NXNE Returns to Port Lands Site for 2017 Guitar Workshop Plus Reveals 2017 Dates & Guest Artists Guitar Workshop Plus has announced its 2017 program and artist lineup. The program provides an intensive experience in music education and has scholarships available. Four sessions have been announced for 2017 as follows: San Diego, CA from June 18-23; Oakville, ON from July 23- 28; Nashville, TN from July 30-Aug. 4; and Seattle, WA from Aug. 13-18. This year’s guest artists include: Rik Emmett (Triumph, solo); Andy Timmons (solo); Tony Ma- cAlpine (solo, Steve Vai, Planet X); Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani); and more. Organizers of the 23 rd annual North by Northeast (NXNE) festival have announced that this year’s Club Land shows will be held in venues around down- town Toronto from June 16-26, while the central festival site in the Port Lands will host shows from June 23-25. NXNE changed formats last year with the introduction of the Port Lands festival site, which shifted much of the club programming to a central location. This year, it will include two main stages, art installations, sponsor activations, and places to relax between acts, as well as a comedy tent and carnival rides. The Port Lands headliners will include Post Malone, Tyler the Creator, Passion Pit, Sleigh Bells, Cold Specks, Bleachers, Tinie Tempah, and more. For more information, go to www.nxne.com. Honey Jam Auditions Set for June 3 rd Auditions for the 2017 Honey Jam Showcase will be held on June 3 rd at Revival in Toronto. As always, Honey Jam auditions are open to all fe- male artists ages 14 to 25 in any genre. The final Honey Jam showcase will be held Aug. 24, 2017 in Toronto. Artists outside of Ontario may submit their audition online. All of the artists chosen to perform this year will attend a music industry workshop at Harris Institute, receive one-on-one vocal and performance coaching from Elaine Overholt of Big Voice Studios, be played on radio, and receive A&R consultation from Universal Music. One artist chosen for the August showcase will win demo sessions at Slaight Studios and at- tend Canada’s Walk of Fame ceremony. As well, a Toronto-based Honey Jam artist will take part in the Artist Entrepreneur program at Coalition Music’s Canada’s Music Incubator (CMI).
