ECMA Conference to Focus on Music in Film , TV & New Media
As part of East Coast Music Week 2017 , happening in Saint John , NB from April 26- 30 , this year ’ s ECMA Industry Conference will feature the ECMA Music in Motion : Film , Television & New Media program and offer a series of forums on expanding career and business opportunities in the world of film , television , advertising , and music supervision .
The Music in Motion conference sessions will see artists sharing how they have navigated the transition from the stage to the screen through film and TV composition . Music supervisors will discuss what they ’ re looking in a placement and what goes into their process . The ECMA will also present a number of new and returning mentorship and networking opportunities throughout the event .

… The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission is changing its policy to again allow underage musicians to perform in bars and lounges that sell liquor . Under the revised policy , bars can request approval from the AGLC to allow underage performers .

DMC Canada Announces 2017 Regional DJ Competitions & New Initiatives
DMC Canada is gearing up for its 2017 series of Canadian DMC Battleground competitions . Turntablist DJs will be vying for an opportunity to advance from regional qualifiers through to the National DMC Championships on Sept . 1 , 2017 in Toronto . The 2017 National DMC DJ Champion will then advance to the DMC World Championships to represent Canada in early fall . DMC Canada has confirmed 2017 regional dates in Toronto , Edmonton , Vancouver , Montreal , and Ottawa .
Shortly after the East Coast DMC Scratch Competition on March 12 th , DMC Canada will be facilitating a two-hour seminar at the 2017 CDJ Show entitled “ In Rotation with DMC Canada ,” featuring a DJ / turntablism instructional seminar with New York ’ s DJ Shiftee as well as a panel and Q & A with DJs Starting from Scratch , Dr . Jay , and Nick Holder .

BreakOut West Festival Submissions Now Open
Submissions are being accepted for the 2017 BreakOut West Festival and Western Canadian Music Awards , taking place from Sept . 13-17 in Edmonton , AB . Submissions close on March 13 , 2017 .
BreakOut West is using a new submission platform this year , details for which are available on its website . BreakOut West gives artists the opportunity to showcase in front of over 3,000 music fans and more than 500 national and international music industry professionals .

Applications Now Open for MusiCounts TD Community Music Program
Applications are now open for the Musi- Counts TD Community Music Program . Community music groups may apply to receive up to $ 25,000 of musical instruments and equipment until April 17 , 2017 .
Applications are only open to charities and non-profit programs . The program provides musical instruments and equipment to community centres , after-school programs , and other community non-profit organizations that need instruments to ensure their music program ’ s sustained growth .

CDJ Show Expanding to Serve Entire Electronic Music Industry
The 2017 edition of the CDJ Show & Conference presented by Pioneer DJ is returning to the Hilton Toronto from March 10-12 . Organizers are broadening the show ’ s scope beyond its DJ roots to focus on the entire spectrum of electronic music . Subsequently , the conference will offer panels , speakers , presentations , and networking opportunities for DJs , producers , engineers , songwriters , beat makers , and performers across the related genres of pop , dance , electronic , hip-hop , and R & B .
Conference panels include a session on writing dance music , women in dance music , and an industry panel on the future of the electronic music business . The CDJ Icons event will return for its second year , GetSigned . ca will offer attendees to have their tracks reviewed , and Canadian Musician Senior Editor Michael Raine will moderate a panel on how to get the media ’ s attention .
