Denali Star

The Alaska Railroad route spans more than 804 kilometres from Seward to Denali National Park and on to Fairbanks . Travellers journey through alpine forests , coastal regions , and traverse two major mountain ranges in a land twice the size of Texas . In summer , trains run daily to and from eight major stops along the rail belt . The Denali Star train links Anchorage to Fairbanks with stops in Wasilla , Talkeetna and Denali Park . The 572-kilometre route features spectacular scenery , such as Hurricane Gulch , where you will travel across one of the world ’ s largest single-span bridges . Expect frequent views of Denali , North America ’ s tallest peak . The Anchorage to Denali route is the most popular rail tour offering Adventure Class and GoldStar Service options . Coastal Classic Glacier Discovery

The Coastal Classic train is a local favourite that winds through the stretch of wilderness between Anchorage and Seward . A string of massive glaciers visible from the track enriches the journey as you travel south to the coastal town of Seward , AK and the shores of Resurrection Bay – the perfect connection to Kenai Fjords National Park , whale watching , sea kayaking , tidewater glacier viewing and dog sled rides . Adventure Class and GoldStar Service levels are available on the Coastal Classic . GoldStar Service features bi-level railcars with dome windows and an exclusive outdoor viewing platform – an excellent vantage point to see the most beautiful stretch of the Alaska Railroad – and full-service sit down " dining with a view ." Depart from either Seward or Anchorage ; runs May to mid-September .

The Glacier Discovery train begins in Anchorage and skirts the shore of Turnagain Arm . This area is part of the Chugach National Forest , the second largest national forest in the United States at 2.5 million hectares . After travelling past Girdwood , 64 kilometres from Anchorage , the train leaves the mainline for a trip into the port of Whittier – the gateway to Prince William Sound – where many passengers board day cruises to view glaciers and marine wildlife . After Whittier , the train continues south to the Placer Valley and into country accessible only by train . Stop at Spencer Glacier and join a guided raft trip amongst the icebergs on Spencer Lake or a hike with a Forest Service Ranger . Or stay on board and venture to the scenic glaciers in Grandview Valley . Runs late May to mid September , 2017 .
