Our restaurant brand Salt and Barrel represents local roots , flavours , potential , enterprise and success . Johnnie Walker originally started with a grocers in Kilmarnock , selling everyday items like salt , and went on to blend whiskies in barrels leading to his company ’ s worldwide success .
The Still Room coffee shop also draws on our Johnnie Walker heritage . The Still Room is an important room in the whisky business , where distillation occurs and quality is achieved – the secret blend . This process is similar to roasting coffee . Still denotes feelings of comfort , quiet , study and peace – perfect for a gentle , warm coffee shop .
The Refectory is simply that . We felt it was important this area was easily identifiable and continued the theme by adding ‘ bite ’ size roundals throughout the refectory directing students to the correct queues for hot food , drinks , soup etc . The casual handwritten type and bright colours help create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere . This also follows the branding for the Refectory at our other campuses to create a sense of unity .
You . the hair and beauty salon , is a unisex brand neither male nor female ; it is just You . The logo is functional and elegant and we plan to tell the story of the brand through bespoke graphics and a dedicated marketing campaign .
What ’ s next ? As soon as the glazing is complete , I will be developing some wall art , large mosaics and portraits of students with augmented reality , which means you will be able to scan images on a smart phone and see the students ’ stories come to life .
All in all , it ’ s been a challenging yet exciting project and one which I am proud to be involved in .
