Making sure that the new campus is
properly cleaned is a mammoth task.
Cleaning Supervisor Mary McAllister and
all our Cleaners pulled out all the stops
to make sure the building was cleaned to
their demanding standards.
The Campus Assistants and Estates
Assistants continued to run the old
campus, at the same time as learning
how to operate the new building,
including security and dealing with fire
alarms.
The New Campus
has been a fantastic
project and one I’ve
been delighted to
work on.
Decant Coordinator Charlie Kirkpatrick
was in charge of moving everything that
was required from the old campus, from
the huge Mazak and Doosan machines
in engineering to colleagues’ personal
boxes.
New Campus Project Director Eileen
Mackin was instrumental in getting
the project to where it is today, and
sustainability has always been central.
The new campus building achieved the
top BREEAM Outstanding rating, the
highest standard awarded and one that
is highly regarded in the construction
industry. We are one of only six projects
in Scotland to have received this
accolade, and one of only two in the
College sector.
We are starting to put in place a travel
plan which is part of our commitment to
sustainability. We are encouraging staff
and students to car-share or to come to
college on foot, by cycle or by public
transport. The new campus is right next
to Kilmarnock railway station and close
to the bus station.
We have plenty of cycle parking and
showers and are arranging to have a
cycle repair station on Hill Street, which
is part of the National Cycle Network.
Thanks Ray for that wonderful insight
into all the hard work your team have
put in to the new Kilmarnock Campus!
