You have developed a niche in
sculpted cakes. How did you
realise your passion for carving and
sculpting?
Tell us how you got in to cake
decorating.
When I first started cake decorating,
I wasn’t really aware of carved cakes,
I had done a bit of research on
wedding cakes but as I never thought
I would be able to carve a cake, I
didn’t look into them too much. As
I started making a few more basic
cakes for family, I was asked to make
a cake which looked like a giant bag
of Cadbury Chocolate Buttons. I was
really nervous as it was something
I had never done before, but I was
determined to try. My first experience
with a sculpted cake was not great, I
actually had to make it twice,
I first discovered Cake Decorating in
April 2012 after watching American TV
shows, Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss.
It was something completely new to
me that I really wanted to learn more
about. I have always had a passion for
art and a love of baking so I thought
it would be something I would enjoy.
My birthday was coming up in June
so I decided to try a few techniques
before applying them to my cake,
which turned out far from perfect, but I
really enjoyed it!
