"THE COASTAL BEND HAS A HIDDEN TREASURE, IT IS CALLED THE CRAFT TRAINING CENTER OF THE COASTAL BEND!" students must submit to drug testing before being accepted in the program and are sub- ject to random drug tests while participating in the intense camp. Dr. Sandroussi believes that starting students early is critical to getting them ready for the workforce. “Students need to learn early that craft skills training will pro- vide a great quality of life. All of our students at CTCCB understand this concept and are attain- ing training NCCER credentials that will impact their quality of life in a positive manner” states Dr. Sandroussi. Also preparing for future careers are high school students and adults. These students utilize the NCCER national curriculum that has been developed by Subject Matter Experts (SME) throughout the United States of Amer- ica. Over 250 high school students from 17 different high schools are enrolled in the CTC- CB HS training program. The adult program consists of approximately 300 adults and the CTCCB has over 15 off-site locations through- out the state called NCCER Accredited Train- ing Education Facility (ATEF) consisting of over 100 students. NCCER develops and publish- es a world-class national curriculum created by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout the United States. NCCER certification and training credentials are often required by area employers for employment. The NCCER cur- riculum facilitates school districts in meeting the new requirement of House Bill 5 for career pathways to earning training credentials, cer- tifications and licenses. All classes meet or exceed Texas Education Agency requirements and through CTCCB programs students may earn the following if they complete their field of study: Career & Technology Education (CTE) credit, NCCER national training credentials, Del Mar College Continuing Education credit, CTC- CB graduation credit and AWS certifications. Many of the high school students participate in local, state and national competitions during the year. The main focus of the training pro- gram is to produce a well-educated drug free craftsman. The CTCCB has been commission to develop these craftsmen in order to develop a productive workforce in our area. The CTCCB is an organization that has received local, state and national accolades including recognition in the Wall Street Journal and national award recipient of the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) award for Workforce Development! (On another positive note the CTCCB works with 100 5 th grade students from two different elementary schools during the year. This year the CTCCB is working with Calallen ISD and West Oso ISD 5 th graders. A career awareness program is being implemented with these stu- dents and all of the students attended an on- site field trip to the CTCCB. While at the CTC- CB the students engaged in several activities for 4 hours and are supervised by the CTCCB instructors and mentored by the CTCCB high school students.) 24
