I hesitated. I had stepped off a curb into new
territory. I didn’t know what was expected of me
or what I expected back. I’d always assumed that
death would be the end of decisions. But it wasn’t.
I never knew that, just as Kevin Spinelli had
touched my life, I had touched his.
He rubbed my back, and the touch was
comforting. Another sensation bloomed beneath
it. A feeling that filled me up until it was the only
feeling. It was desire. And it was love. His was a
touch, I suddenly realized, that I never wanted to
give up.
“I won’t rush you,” he said. “We have all the
time in the world.” He kissed me again, warmer
and deeper than the last. I pressed against him,
winding my arms around his shoulders, stoking
