Estuary is an important environment , which must be protected . There are only a few areas around the Neponset that still have the marshes and natural wild lands that are meant to be there and support ocean , river and land ecosystems and wildlife habitats . The term “ passive park ” is often used in a pejorative manner , but the real beauty and success of PJP II lies in the fact that it represents a rare space within the City of Boston where nature is permitted to run its own course . Certainly the people of Dorchester deserve such a place .”
John Dixon Hunt , in his latest book Site , Sight , Insight Essays on Landscape Architecture , provides additional food for thought : “ The return of the human meaning or presence can enable or redetermine the ‘ picturesque ’ and even the huge disturbances of land that today we rediscover in drosscapes , toxic landscapes , and the lacunae of humaninduced and human-produced wasteland , that may yield themselves once again to a new generation of landscape architects as a means of understanding an extended picturesque .”
Marion Pressley , FASLA has contributed enormously to the designed landscape through her work in landscape architecture and the rehabilitation of public parks and private historical properties . Marion is recognized nationally for her historic preservation work , and is one of very few professionals to achieve national recognition in both historic preservation and contemporary design practice . Marion ’ s contribution to preserving the Olmsted legacy includes a substantial body of work devoted to the recovery of the Emerald Necklace Park System — from master planning to the implementation of treatment design . Her portfolio includes award-winning park designs , streetscapes , and historic landscape preservation planning projects . Marion has also been the Principal in Charge for several contemporary urban design / streetscape projects including Maverick MBTA Station at Maverick Square East Boston , the Port of Authority of Pittsburgh North Shore Connector ; design and construction of public square and streetscape at Gateway Center Station Pittsburgh , PA , and the Central Artery Streetscape Project C011A Atlantic Avenue .
Kimberly Drake , ASLA is a senior landscape architect at the headquarters office of CDM Smith . With CDM Smith for over 19 years she is a registered / licensed LA in MA , RI , PA , DE , MD , NC , TX , and MN . She works on project types that include : municipal and regional recreation facilities , public transportation and utility infrastructure , streetscapes , development of Federal facilities , and brownfield redevelopment . She is actively involved with CLARB and has served for a number of years on various LARE committees . She is active in her community and is on the Planning Board and is chair of the Community Preservation Committee .
