construction process , as the site was cleared of understory brush , fallen tree limbs and trash , we began to see fewer and fewer with each visit .
The neighbors of the park had told us during our public meeting that they didn ’ t think the idea of using some of the old foundation stones as seating was a good idea because it might invite people to congregate and linger at the summit . They said that it would be great to introduce some history , to create trails for people to explore , and to expose the old foundations ; however , to create a space in which people could hang out would be a bad idea . But they were excited that this parcel of land was getting its chance to be a positive amenity in their neighborhood . They were excited that it would have some flowers and color and that it maybe would no longer be a place where only bad things happened . As we held our regular construction meetings , residents of the adjacent Warren Gardens housing would ask us what was planned and what we were doing with the site . After the interpretive panels went up , one or two mentioned that they had read them and previously had no idea what was up at the summit . Many of them said that they didn ’ t go up the hills because of the activities that went on there . They expressed their hopes that the city would keep up the maintenance of the site and
