Los Olivos : A Conscious Renovation Los Olivos , California
The renovation of this house and property in Los Olivos , California emphasized the landscape . Beyond minimal exterior changes to the architecture , the transformation of this neglected agricultural property was accomplished by the new landscape design .
The introduction of an organic vineyard , new outdoor living areas , and garden spaces transformed this 7.5 acre property into a productive family weekend retreat . Developed in the 70 ’ s , the site was utilized by the previous owners for the cultivation of garlic and Jojoba crops , and included a 38 ’ diameter peace sign and an eclectic cacti collection .
The client embraced these unique elements incorporated into the new landscape . With bold design gestures , such as a linear garden of lavender fields , a custom arbor composed of unfinished steel and bamboo matting , and a transplanted grove of olive trees , we created a spatial hierarchy and connected the site to the rolling hills beyond . The resultant landscape reflects the natural surroundings with a comfortable and balanced simplicity .
