Watch Factory

The Watch Factory is the product of a
creative, sustainable vision for a repurposed
manufacturing complex along t he Charles
River in Waltham, Massachusetts. The designer
adopted existing industrial language from the
150-year-old factory buildings and overcame
a landscape polluted by manufacturing
byproducts to reinvent a series of courtyards.
Using intelligible stormwater management to
structure the design, the landscape architect
made rainwater’s journey—from roof, to runnel,
to rain garden, to river—dynamic, transparent,
and elegant.
