SECTION REPORT
WESTERN MA
MARK LINDHULT, FASLA BSLA Sec tion Chair
The main event for the Western
Massachusetts Section of the BSLA
was participating in Park(ing) Day in
Downtown Springfield, MA on September
20, 2013. The section coordinated the
event with MassBike with the theme of
promoting bicycle commuting. A design
charrette was held at the offices of GZA
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. in Springfield
and it was decided that we would occupy
two parking spaces to have a greater
visual impact. We wish to recognize
Landscape Forms for providing seating
for the project, Hadley Garden Center
for supplying the trees, Bug Hill Farms
for providing a large assortment of
groundcovers, and Mike Tully from the
City of Springfield for arranging a tree
and a bike rack soon to be installed
as a permanent reminder of our presence
in downtown.
Currently the section is working to
coordinate events with the Western
Massachusetts AIA. A joint design awards
program is being planned for this fall for
WMass firms.
We will be participating in Park(ing) Day
once again with a charrette planned for
the end of August. A survey for WMass
