The Halvorson Perspective

In our practice at Halvorson Design Partnership , Inc ., we have seen the relationship between works of art and landscape architecture evolve over the years . A greater symbiosis has emerged between art and the landscape that integrates function and temporality . The collaborations between us and the artists who participate in our projects have resulted in several distinct approaches to art in the landscape : the inclusion of discrete works of art as focal points , the integration of art with functional elements of the landscape , artistic collaborations that encourage play , and landscapes that form the canvas for ephemeral and temporal art .
Art as Focal Point
The archetypal relationship between art and the landscape is evident in our earlier works , such as the Norman B . Leventhal Post Office Square Park in the Financial District of Boston . Among the iconic aspects of the park is the central water feature , developed by Halvorson Design in collaboration with
