CHRIS REED , FASLA
C hris Reed is the founding Principal of Stoss Landscape Urbanism and Associate Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design . He is an internationally-recognized figure in the fields of landscape and urbanism thanks to his thought-provoking , innovative , and hybridized approach to public space . His award-winning work in the public realm across the globe , his integration of ecology and infrastructure in landscape projects , and his position as one of the leading design practitioners of his generation distinguishes his worthiness for the Council of Fellows .
He is also a prominent teacher , writer , and lecturer , having been a faculty member at Harvard since 2008 and at the University of Pennsylvania for a number of years prior . His research focuses on the relationships between ecological thinking and design practices , and he has published several works including Projective Ecologies that he co-edited and was published by ACTAR and the GSD .
Most important contributions from Chris to the practice has been his integration of landscape , infrastructural , and ecological strategies in both built projects and planning work .
Chris founded Stoss in 2000 to pursue complex , interdisciplinary projects in the public realm , taking on larger environmental issues of flooding , stormwater mitigation , and climate change as well as social issues of environmental justice , urban access and connectivity , and social activation in cities across the globe .
Stoss has been the recipient of national and local awards including BSLA Honor Award in College & University Design for the Plaza at Harvard in 2015 , BSLA Honor Award in Waterfront Design for The CityDeck , BSLA Merit Award in Waterfront Design for Erie Street Plaza , BSLA Urban and Campus Planning Award for Herinnering Park .
Chris completed his Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania after received his A . B . cum laude in Urban Studies from Harvard College . Chris Reed is also a Fellow at The Forum for Urban Design .
