Millennium Place III Boston , Massachusetts
Located in the heart of downtown Boston , Millennium Place is a new residential tower that demonstrates the critical value of landscape in an urban setting . Through creative collaboration with the architecture team and client group , the designer established landmark focal plantings on the fifteenth , second , and ground floors of the building .
Using a broad palette for such a confined site , the landscape architect planted the ground floor and green roofs as urban oases , layered with diverse plantings for all-season interest . While the fifteenth floor has a shallow soil profile with more conventional sedum and lawn plantings , the second floor green roof takes a different approach — a meadow of ornamental grasses provides viewing interest for the upper floors of the building and adjacent neighbors . The ground floor of the building wraps around a highly visible planted courtyard , featuring a layered , textural composition of shrubs and small trees .
