HIA Highlight Recently about 100 staff attended a Midland Health Stroke Conference in the Education Centre. The theme for the day was ‘Act FAST work SMART.’ The conference organisers, Trish Blattmann and Fay Mattson say there was a real buzz in the room and feedback has been positive such as: Can take a lot of information to our unit to improve things. Thoroughly enjoyed study day - Information suiting all members of the MDT. Interesting in the aids available. Will be treating stroke patients with a new understanding and in a different light. The presenters were Dr Karim Mahawish - managing hyper acute stroke; Julia Slark- The National Institute of Health Stroke Score; Teena Jorgansen – driving post stroke; Branka Mijatavic – psychological sequelae post stroke; Nada Signal – intensity training post stroke; Riana Richardson medication revelations and pitfalls post stroke and Natalie Oakley – communication after stroke. As well as the presentations there were display stands from the Stroke Foundation, Covidien – s
