Tauranga Family Violence and Child Protection advocates. Are you okay this Christmas? By Family Violence and Child Protection Co-ordinator, Nikki Broughton. If you want to join the team no prior expert knowledge is necessary, just a desire to be open and willing to help support staff in regards to family violence and child protection. Training is given Christmas should to be a happy occasion for families however the sad reality is that every year Family Violence spikes over the Christmas period. Did you know you can access support at work? Family Violence and Child Protection advocates (previously known as Champions) are available to support staff at both hospitals. Advocates act as the ‘go to’ person for staff with child protection cases and family violence concerns. We hope to eventually have two advocates in each area/ward. 18 once on board and the group meets regularly for ongoing support and education. If you’re interested in becoming an advocate please discuss with you manager and contact me or or Jan Campbell on 07 577-3340 ext 6840 in Tauranga or Raewyn Butler on 07 3063182 ext 4682. Reducing violence in our communities is everyone’s responsibility. Over this festive session take a moment to look around and if something appears not right ask the question “are you ok”.
