RECREATION DEPARTMENT PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS • 102 new programs (51 of which were for adults) were offered in 2014-15. • Participation more than doubled in the District’s days-off-of-school programs as 246 unique children spent their day in School’s Out! or Busy Bees. • Enrollment rose 43% as 280 unique participants enjoyed Kids’ Place and Kindergarten Kids’ Place (before- and after-school care programs). • 289 summer campers created lasting memories in one of five different camp options. • Grandparents Day was implemented into the Once Upon a Time preschool program. • Captain Oasis, the water park’s new resident party starter, appeared nearly every day on The Oasis pool deck creating spontaneous fun for patrons. • In response to patron feedback, The Oasis Water Park open swim hours were changed to 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. • 248 excited children and parents took a magical ride on the Holly Jolly Trolley, which featured caroling, milk & cookies, a story by Mrs. Claus and, of course, a visit from Santa. • Y.E.S. Camps (Youth Enrichment Series) were offered during the summer for those with special interests such as cooking, gymnastics and sports. • A CHARACTER COUNTS! mural, painted by local school children, was installed on the west side of the Springfield Park concession building. • The annual Bloomingdale Teen Music Fest was held in Old Town Park with 8 bands performing. YOUTH ATHLETIC HIGHLIGHTS • 265 soccer players laced up their kicks for in-house play in Fall 2015, while 242 took to the pitch in Spring 2015. • 156 hoopsters ran the court in YBA In-House play, while 104 played for travel (which consisted of a record 11 teams). • 70 ballers maxed out the junior basketball league. • 58 gymnasts perfected their moves at Summer Gold Camp. • 40 youngsters swung the bat in T-ball. • At the Optionals State Meet, the Gold Team was state champs, the Silver Team second, and the Bronze Team third. The Junior Bronze team was conference champs. At the Tumbling State Meet, the Newcomers and Beginners teams both finished as state champs. The Advanced Beginners and Novice teams were second, and the Intermediates took third. • A new partnership with PT Solutions led to many games, meets, tournaments and even practices being covered by a certified athletic trainer present. 6
