DAVE HOLLISTER

"Changing my life was the best thing that ever happened to me"

R&B recording artist, Dave Hollister found fame during the 1990s as one quarter of the Platinum-selling R&B quartet Blackstreet; before going on to a solo career.

An R&B Genius, Hollister has embarked on a musical journey that is still true to his lyrical form - REAL R&B.

Catching up with Dave Hollister... Hollister...

BLAQUELINE: You released “Chicago Winds…The Sago Continues”, how has the reception been by your fans?

HOLLISTER: Unfortunately, it did not get the promotion and push I would have liked, but my fans have shown me nothing but love. I just wish more people had an opportunity to hear the project. There are some great songs on this album and I'm extremely proud of the music and concept behind it.

BLAQUELINE: Your collaborative circle on the cd is very small, but does include your long time friend Teddy Riley; have you guys remained in touch?

HOLLISTER: I'm currently touring with Teddy and Blackstreet. I have nothing but love for Teddy. We've known each other for many years and started on the Blackstreet journey together.

BLAQUELINE: After so many ups and downs in your life, you moved into the arena of gospel. Is it tough to transition from R&B to Gospel?

HOLLISTER: I consider myself a singer and don't put myself in any specific genre. My music is inspirational and it always has something to say, whether it inspires you to love better, live better or treat someone better there is always thought put into my songs.

BLAQUELINE: When many people want to make a change, they just make a change. But you on the other hand made a major move to include gospel and pastoring into your lifestyle library. How did you know this was the right move for you?

HOLLISTER: When it's time to make a change in your life you know it and for me I had to deal with some pretty serious issues in order for me to realize I had to stop living the way I was. Changing my life was the best thing that ever happened to me.

BLAQUELINE: Why not just change your lifestyle?

HOLLISTER: I did not just change my music, I changed my life.

BLAQUELILNE: Church “folks” can be very vocal and have the “Oh Lord we have another one” attitude. How can you convince the church you are doing this for the lord?

HOLLISTER: I don't have to convince the church.
