BEAUTY TIPS...

for Bikini Line Hair Removal

Shaving is not your best bet for the bikini area (waxing is), but sometimes you just don't have a choice. In this article, I share how to properly shave the bikini area.

But first a word about shaving.

I usually recommend keeping your razor away from your bikini line because shaving causes red bumps and ingrown hairs and the results are never as smooth and clean as a waxed bikini line.

Typically, the best hair removal methods for the bikini area are waxing, the Brazilian wax, laser or pulsed light.

That said, shaving works well on women who don't have a lot of hair down there. And for some women, shaving is simply their preferred method. I say, whatever works for you (and I can tell you, shaving is NOT an option for me, so I'm jealous of those of you who can skip the painful wax jobs).

But to shave your bikini line correctly and for the best results, you'll want to follow some of my tips.

First, Ask Yourself How Much You Should Shave: This is totally a personal preference. Some women choose what to do with their bikini area based on their partner's preference. Others want a clean line for a bathing suit. Others want a full bush. Still others want to go almost bare or totally bare like with the "Brazilian." If you want to remove all, you can do so with a razor, but I strongly recommend getting a professional wax.

Make Sure You Have the Right Razor and Cream: There are basically two rules when it comes to shaving your bikini line: you need a good razor with fresh(ish) blades and you want a great shaving cream or gel. This is not the time to use a disposable razor or your boyfriend's razor. I recommend getting a good razor with a rotating head. And when it comes to lathering up, it's best not to do that with soap. You can use any shaving cream or gel.

The Importance of Trimming the Hedge: Before you do anything, you're going to want to trim your bush. Yeah, I did just type that. Unless you want a "full bush," you'll want to trim your pubic hair. For your trim job, I recommend using an electric hair clipper, the sort guys use to trim -- not shave -- their heads and beards. Trim to the length you prefer. You can also use scissors and a comb. Protect your delicate bits by combing your pubic hair and holding the comb in place against your skin. Shave or clip the hair that sticks out of the comb.

Take a Shower or Bath Before You Start Shaving: Even if it's one of those days where your friends are about to show up and start honking the horn so you can head to the beach, NEVER shave without first softening up the area in the bath or shower. Your bikini line will be a rash of red bumps if you do shave without showering first. You need the hot water and soap to soften the hair, skin and the cuticle. While in the shower, soap up the area very good. You can even add hair conditioner to the pubic area to soften it up even more. Rinse off.
