India is currently
producing about 286
million tonnes of
horticulture produce
from an area of about
24.4 million hectares,
accounting for about
13 percent of the total
world production of
fruits and leads the world
in the production of
mango, banana, papaya,
sapota, pomegranate,
acid lime and aonia.
India’s milk
production crosses
155 million tonnes
The growth in dairy
production is the result
of dairy cooperative
societies’ hard work,
mentioned the Union
Minister of Agriculture
and Farmers Welfare,
Mr Radha Mohan
Singh at the launch of
Coffee Table Book titled
“50 Years–The Great
Indian Milk Revolution”
commemorating National
Dairy Development
Board’s (NDDB) Golden
Jubilee year. The Minister
also said that since 1998,
the poor and marginal
milk producers have
worked hard to make the
country world’s top milk
producer. The success was
not achieved overnight;
it’s the result of milk
producers’ constant
efforts, support of
committed professionals,
and the vision and
expertise of NDDB.
ISGA in India
to explore soy
market potential
The International
Soybean Growers Alliance
(ISGA) which is made up
of growers and industry
representatives from
Argentina, Brazil, Canada,
Paraguay, Uruguay and
the United States on
March 31, 2017 held a
round table in New Delhi
to discuss the growing
demand of soybean
products in India. Set
up in 2006, ISGA is
committed to meet
the rapidly increasing
world demand for
quality and healthy soy
products produced
in a sustainable and
environmentally-
friendly manner.

The strategy for making
Horticulture sector a key
driver in transforming
India’s agrarian
landscape by ensuring
convergence between
research institutions, state
horticulture missions,
livelihood programmes
and entrepreneurship
was also discussed
during the meeting.
Being their first visit
to India, members of
ISGA will visit Delhi
and Mumbai and
meet government
officials, trade bodies
and industry bodies
to explore future
collaborations with India
and assess the market
potential for soy products.
The International
Soybean Growers Alliance
(ISGA) wants to work
together to develop the
best agricultural and
commercial practices
for everybody in the
ecosystem which
includes soy growers,
industry representative
and most importantly
the end consumers.
