seniors will guide the new incoming players. They are looking forward to a great season, and they will improve their skills through every practice to become better and better.” He expects for the boys to grow as young men, to be gentlemen off the court, and to be warriors on the floor. Another Great Start to the Season By Mitch Long It’s bound to be another great year for Silver Creek’s Girls’ Swim Team. The team has won the conference meet the past few years, and plans to continue that streak this year -- and they’re already doing that. On December 2nd, Silver Creek won its first dual meet against one of its most competitive rivals, Thompson Valley, by 14 points. This is a more impressive win than meets the eye. Thompson Valley has a better team this year than last year. Considering that many great Silver Creek swimmers on the team in previous years have graduated, and the team has had an influx of new swimmers -- mainly freshmen and students from other schools without swim teams like Mead and Lyons -- this was a hard-won meet indeed. Two days later, at the Estes Park Sprints Meet, where swimmers swim 50 yards in each event and a 100-yard IM, many swimmers placed in the top twelve, among them Jenny Weygandt and Emelie Hartrampf from Silver Creek, Maddie Black from Mead, and Lauren Bond from Lyons, with good performances overall from the team. On December 6th, Silver Creek won against Brighton, and hopes to win on Thursday, December 8th, against Mountain View. Here are some interesting tidbits about this year’s Girls’ Swim Team: ● There are over 60 swimmers on the team. ● Dry-land training, which is strength-building exercise out of the water, usually before school or after practice on select days of the week, are swimmers’ number one complaint. Nobody wants to wake up at 5:30am to do them, and they’re pretty difficult, too, although they add to swimmers’ success. ● Most swimmers’ least favorite stroke is butterfly. Any other stroke is doable, but dread falls over most who swim any event with butterfly. ● The team is comprised not only of Silver Creek girls.
